PROJECT TITLE:
„THE PLATFORM FOR TESTING INNOVATIVE APPLICATIONS USING THE 5G COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE”
COD SMIS: 142837
FINANCING CONTRACT: 8/221_ap3/28.06.2021
THE VALUE OF THE CONTRACT : 41.297.807,60 LEI

The overall objective of the project is the creation of a platform for testing applications and innovative solutions in the field of IoT, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Industrial Digitization using the 5G communications infrastructure, with unique features in Romania, which will support both operators private economies, as well as public authorities. The innovative platform will support research and innovation in the ICT field by offering the opportunity to every client who wants to research and/or develop an innovative application or solution in the fields listed above, to test their product using the 5G communications infrastructure, having access to the most efficient technologies in order to validate the tested product. The test platform using the 5G communication infrastructure will use a range of intelligent and emerging applications such as: 8K broadcast of a virtual reality (VR), real-time video broadcast of 16 high-definition channels, remote training through augmented reality (AR ), agriculture and intelligent surveillance (IoT). The development and testing of 5G technology aims to increase economic competitiveness and the vertical integration of ICT solutions within society. Thus, the 8K broadcast of a virtual reality can be tested in the framework of an ultra-HD scenario in which a series of video cameras will transmit real-time images to a distribution server through a 5G communication infrastructure. In the demonstration area, a VR equipment is used to watch the live broadcast, offering a full immersive experience. Also, a potential client who wants to test a remote training application through augmented reality can use the test platform. For example, through the platform, digital assets and virtual models of operators are presented in three-dimensional space. Virtual communication and virtual model operations are used to achieve remote interaction. Another example by which the capabilities of the application testing platform can be used using the 5 G communications infrastructure is the testing of some sensors that can be used in agriculture. These sensors will be able to send data in real time to a central hub, from where they are extracted by the user to make quick decisions. Agricultural IoT devices can communicate moisture levels, fertilization, nutrition, as well as report current and forecast weather patterns to enable improved crop management and livestock analysis. Wireless technologies represent an opportunity to reduce implementation costs for surveillance camera systems, this being another example of testing the innovative platform. With AI (Artificial Intelligence) smart camera platforms that are powered by the cloud, there is the potential to implement "true wireless" cameras that are only tied to a 5G connection, a solar panel and a battery. The main advantage of 5G in surveillance is undeniably speed. For solutions that require unmatched download and upload speeds that allow easy streaming with low latency, while having the ability to display higher resolution videos. These are some examples by which the capabilities of a 5G test platform can be tested. Any customer who wants to test the behavior of a developed application or a device that requires high-speed connection, low latency and optimal energy use can use the 5G test platform. It will also allow customers to define various parameters needed in a test environment, which are usually not available in a production network. This facility is very useful for application developers because, when telecom operators in Romania will make their own 5G networks available to users, developers will not be able to simulate various functionalities of data connections in terms of download / upload speed and latency e.g. The laboratory developed within the project will allow the configuration of the parameters of the test network, so that the application developers can simulate various network operation scenarios so that they can adapt their source code to be prepared for any situation. The development and testing of the innovative application testing platform using the 5G communications infrastructure is aimed at increasing economic competitiveness and the vertical integration of ICT solutions within society.
